The Office grabs one hour spot after Super Bowl XLIII

Michael Scott is about to get roasted.

According to people familiar with the plotline, NBC’s just-confirmed post-Super Bowl episode of “The Office” will feature the employees of Dunder Mifflin roasting the show’s lead character, played by Steve Carell.

While neither NBC nor “Office” creator Greg Daniels have kept plans for the post-game show a secret, the network didn’t officially issue a press release about its decision until today.

The roast of Mr. Scott will not be celebrity-driven, but producers are exploring the idea of incorporating some stunt casting into the project. However, the guest stars would be woven into the plotline in such a way as to not interfere with the carefully constructed world of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin, a person familiar with the plotline said.

It’s expected the roast of Michael Scott will take place in the second half of the episode. Not surprisingly, Michael requests that his employees roast him.

Steve Carell to voice 'Despicable'
Actor takes on 3-D CG-animated film

Illumination Entertainment topper Chris Meledandri has kicked off his Universal Pictures-based family film unit with "Despicable Me," a 3-D CG-animated film that has Steve Carell voicing the title character.

Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement ("Flight of the Conchords"), Jack McBrayer ("30 Rock") and Julie Andrews are providing the other lead voices. The film will be released in 2010.

Carell's title character is a deplorable man known as Groo who masterminds the mother of all heists when he plots to steal the moon. Egged on by an evil mother (Andrews), Groo finds one obstacle in his way: a trio of orphan girls who temporarily come under his care and won't leave.

The pic reteams Carell, who provided one of the voices for "Horton Hears a Who," with Meledandri, who made that toon feature as head of Fox Animation, and with "Horton" scribes Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.

Paul and Daurio wrote "Despicable Me," which Meledandri will produce with Janet Healy and John Cohen. Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin are directing from an idea hatched by co-director Sergio Pablos.

Meledandri said the spirit of the film came partly from taking his sons to see family films and discovering they always most loved the villains.

"Despicable Me" will be fully financed by Universal.

Steve Carell could make "Beaver" Speak.

One of the hottest scripts in development circles at the moment centers on ... a beaver puppet?

Anonymous Content recently picked up "The Beaver," a script from first-time writer Kyle Killen about a man who walks around with a beaver puppet on his hand, treating it as something close to a human creature with human feelings. It's a whimsical and winning script, according to those who have seen it.

But the real selling point is the talent attached: Steve Carell, who could play the lead.

The fable, which occupies the fantastical territory somewhere between "Being John Malkovich" and "Lars and the Real Girl," has a lot of studios interested. No one's able to buy it yet because Anonymous is seeking a director first. (At one point, there was word that Jay Roach might come on board, though that seems unlikely.) But expect it to move quickly.

Killen is one of those spec-writer rags-to-riches stories -- a 30ish USC grad whose writing career until now has consisted of writing for small literary magazines. He follows a tradition that this year alone includes such previous unknowns as Michael Martin and Brad Ingelsby.

Carell, meanwhile, has a number of projects to choose from in his springtime hiatus from NBC's "The Office." The star is weighing such projects as "Get Smart 2" and the Napoleonic comedy "Brigadier Gerard" for this year. Soon you might be able to toss a woodland creature into the mix.
